This is my first year of riding and for the first 6 months or so I was accident free
, Just a few days ago I got lazy and forgot to read the weather report and it started raining during my ride to work. I ended up slowing down lightly before a stop light (I wasn’t speeding at all) but hit some sort of slick spot (oil slick) on a straightaway when my rear wheel began slipping sideways.
They always told me in my MSF course to NEVER let go of the brakes when your rear tire starts skidding to prevent having the bike suddenly grip and then throw you ahead of it.
But, when I did that in the rain, my bike began swinging wildly from side to side until it hit a curb and threw me off forward.
Yes I’m ok yes >>I WAS wearing full gear (gloves, full jacket, full pants, and a FULL face helmet)…but my bike is totaled.
In the odd case I get left out in the rain again and can’t pull off the road immediately I am wondering what I should do differently?
